Last night was choir rehearsal at Dr.

Bill's house. Dr. Bill is a retired surgeon who has sung in the choir for many years. Recently he's had a couple of mini strokes and he had a fall, so he's not been singing in the choir. He's not confident in getting up into the loft anymore, even with help. He's been a bit down about it so we scheduled a night to rehearse at his house and have a potluck and invite Reverend Hannah, the curate.

I was super thrilled to see their house! It's a 1970s modern built in 1973. It is PRISTINE. All of their extremely old furniture is in mint condition. The house doesn't look like it's been redecorated at any point since it was built, but it has been lived in, so it's not dusty or musty as you'd generally expect such a time capsule to be. It is positively full of antiques, including an antique kotatsu from Japan and an old-fashioned tiny pixie of a writing desk. The entire place is just simply my dream house.

Being Episcopalian, there was plenty of wine in attendance and I found the TASTIEST wine! It's Woodbridge Estates "Harvest Blend" red and it's spiced! Basically it's like you would spice your wine if you mulled it, which I've done and highly recommend. There's a slight orange note maybe in the background, but more pronounced cinnamon and nutmeg. It was really smooth and juicy but spicy and just very interesting and delicious.

At the end of the night when everyone was filing out, Rev. Hannah called to me from the front door "Um, Hillary? Would you come out please? We need you." She was so calm that I couldn't immediately think why on earth she would need me until I reached the front door itself and found Yvonne, the choir director's mother, lying on her side on the walk below the 2 porch steps. I thought to myself rather ruefully "Oh good grief, Creech. What else does anyone EVER need you for?"

I set about examining Yvonne, who had one HELL of a gouge in her shin (I saw bone!), some very tender ribs, and some swelling & a bruise beginning at the outside of her ankle. My advice was to head over to my ER, which was quite nearby, and get the ankle x-rayed. It wasn't a break that made the joint unstable, I could tell by the movement of her foot, but there was still the possibility of a non-dislocated fracture. According to Rhonda's (her daughter the director) post in the FB group this morning, I was right--there was a non-dislocated fracture of the distal tibia. Easy to heal but it requires a boot.

Looks like what I've always said is true: you don't ever get to turn the nurse off. ;)
