Aug. 15th, 2009 08:36 amLast night we had an incident at the train table. Ganon was there,
playing with a couple of geeky highschoolers. They were playing with
the trains when we came up, & stayed when I told them not to worry--
that I'd been the geeky train table type in high school. :D The boy
recognized Ganon's name from Legend of Zelda.
Anyway, another boy, perhaps 4 or 5, came up and began playing with
the trains. I say playing but he was actually flinging them on the
table so they'd bounce & skitter across & into the floor. With a very
mean look on his face, if you can picture it. Not a parent in sight.
Ganon got huge round eyes & stared at me. He looked offended & hurt.
Then without a word, he went around picking up each of the engines
that hit the floor & handing them to me. Henry, James, Thomas, Harold.
After a few he started looking determined & kinda grim, & he started
glaring at the boy. He was getting angry. It suddenly occurred to me
that Ganon was rescuing the engines from this brat! He saw this boy as
being mean to the engines, & he had to save them. My little Gryffindor.
After the engines were all gone (the kid made no move to get to them
where Ganon put them in my lap), this kid started to try & pull up the
tracks on the table. I intervened at that point. I moved him out of
the way, re-aligned the table & sweetly told (not asked), "We don't
want to break things so that others can't play with them!"
The kid looked baffled (still no parent in sight) & ran off. Ganon
looked at me triumphantly, said "I loveshoo, Mama!" and started
restoring the engines to the Island of Sodor. :D
My son is sweet & kind & smart (& has a definite sense of right &
wrong as it comes to trains!). I'm a very fortunate person.
